Sustainability and responsibility
With freedom comes responsibility. Education builds responsibility.
WEMountain has designed and developed a disruptive solution for the future of mountain safety education. Education will allow us to anticipate potential regulations and maintain our freedom.
Our unique ecosystem brings together all stakeholders: riders, brands, resorts and instructors.
WEMountain is an international network of professionals and amateurs with a deep pool of knowledge, skills and experience. Its members share the common values of freedom, enjoyment and safety.
Are you a skier, snowboarder or tourer? Pro or amateur? Do you live in the city, the country or in the mountains?
Welcome to all backcountry enthusiasts!
We believe that safety training is essential for people who seek the freedom of the backcountry. The goal of our program is to provide participants with the basic knowledge they need to practice snow sports safely, without sacrificing fun or freedom. Also integral to the program’s mission are knowledge sharing, exchange and the development of an international community.
The community is a place where every member can get answers and advice from experts from all over the world, where they can not only share and celebrate their experiences, but also provide guidance to other participants and – why not – join them on their next trip!
A playground worth protecting
Nature is a magnificent playground that’s open to everyone. But enjoying it involves an increasingly delicate balance. We have a responsibility to protect our environment. All members have a duty to act respectfully and be considerate of people, plants and animals. We must commit to playing in harmony with the alpine environment and everyone else who enjoys it, without causing damage. This respect goes beyond the mountain. That’s why all members commit to adopting respectful behaviour in their everyday lives as well.
Let’s work together to make the mountains safer!
Our partner community plays a crucial role in sharing knowledge and best practices. When delivering services or selling sports equipment or safety and rescue gear, our partners are committed to educating their clients and advising them to get proper training. This commitment further extends to their sponsored athletes and sales teams. The resulting circle of responsibility includes all mountain sport stakeholders. These collective efforts will empower backcountry users with the knowledge to make our sport safer for everyone.
It is also thanks to our partners that WEMountain members benefit from a special rewards program that guarantees a return on their investment.
Gear is necessary, but knowledge is vital! Muscle up your brain!
“Over 60 instructors in six alpine countries have already been trained to deliver our T-Learning program.
Under the supervision of these top professionals, members who have completed their digital certificate can safely test their new skills in the field.
WEMountain is privileged to work with a select network of certified national-level ski instructors and IFMGA and AIARE mountain guides who have completed specific instructor training.
WEMountain instructors are active in six alpine countries: Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Spain.
They represent us at all main ski areas and resorts in the Alps.”
“It was a hard day… with nearly a metre of new snow over the past four weeks, the avalanche risk was very high (4/5). We were riding in the Verbier area when we saw a big slide next to Col de Creblet. Maybe ten people were on the face, all at the same time. Zero safety precautions. Unfortunately, two girls were snowboarding in the middle of the face. The avalanche hit them full force. We were first on-site and immediately started a transceiver search. We quickly found the first girl. The second was 70 metres downhill and we got to her quickly as well. While we were digging them out, people around us kept on skiing in all directions. The inevitable happened. A second avalanche hit. It carried away a third person. Verbier is a freeride mecca. Everyone should have the right gear, know the conditions, but more importantly, get mountain safety training. Thank you WEMountain for your training programs. They helped me save lives that day.”
