In France, they\u2019re often coached and supervised by people who do teach them about <strong>mountain safety<\/strong>, a crucial transfer of knowledge, and one that goes way beyond the beacon\/probe\/shovel trio. <br \/>\u201c<em>Knowing the warning signs (snowpack overload, slope angle, warming, etc.) gives a good base. Good behaviour comes later, with experience and training.\u2028The mistake is thinking \u2018safety\u2019 means having a beacon\/probe \/ shovel.\u2028We need to make young people understand that gear will not stop avalanches<\/em>,\u201d\u2028insists Brice Lamon.<\/p><p>He has a very concrete example to illustrate how vital training is for <strong>young riders<\/strong>: \u201c<em>I\u2019m an instructor for the FWT Academy in China. One day, with avalanche risk 4\/5, my students wanted to go into a steep slope. I told them we weren\u2019t going there. An hour later, there was an accident and one person died.\u2028My students then told me that if I had been taken in an avalanche, they would never have been able to find me.\u2028That\u2019s how essential proper training is.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ee85f2c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ee85f2c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">WEMountain training: a direct response to real needs<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-61df663 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"61df663\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>With 80% of its focus on avoidance and prevention, the WEMountain method is perfectly aligned with what <strong>young riders actually need from training<\/strong>. Training helps some young riders evolve in how they ride. They check the avalanche bulletin, analyse aspect and altitude, and talk together before committing.\u2028They\u2019re still riding and having fun, but with awareness of the risks and by making better decisions,<\/em>\u201d\u2028appreciates Kevin Guri.<\/p><p><strong>Avalanche training for young riders<\/strong> looks very much like one of the keys to safer mountains. Brice Lamon is convinced: \u201c<em>Training opens young riders\u2019 eyes to what can actually happen in the mountains.
